ORIENTATION AT G. N. INTERNATIONAL SEN. SEC. PUBLIC SCHOOL

G. N. International Public School, Model Town, held an orientation for the parents of X class students today on 17.09.2010.

The purpose of the Orientation was to make certain points and reforms brought up by CBSE through CCE (Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation) clear to them.

The doubts apprehensions were cleared by Principal Mrs.Gurmant Kaur Gill by making them aware of Assessments on basis of which students will be assessed throughout the year and results will be compiled in the end of the academic year by the school and sent to the Regional Offices of the Board for the final stamp of CBSE and signatures the Board Officials.

The report cards would come to the Principal of the Schools and finally handed over to the students after lamination, so that no one tampers with their report cards.

The result will be based on 4 Formative Assessments (FA1, FA2, FA3 & FA4)which would account for 40% of the total result.

Rest of the 2Summative Assessments (SA1 & SA2) will account for 60% of the total result (in which SA-1 will carry 20% and SA-2 will carry 40% weightage of total marks).

The formative assessments will be based on how students perform in the unit test, quiz, their note books, projects, holidays home work, Intra-class activities, day to day performance and behavior of the student in the class rooms and school as a whole.

Whereas in Summative assessments students will have to appear for 2 terminal exams one in September (1st term exam.) & the other in March (2nd term exam.).

Another confusion which parents had was regarding what option the students should opt for appearing in SA2 (should it be Board exams or School exam) which was very clearly explained by the concerned teachers and Principal Mrs. Gill herself.

If the students opt for Board exams they will still have to appear for exam conducted by School (SA2). However rest all the Assessments will be done by the School itself – via 4 FA's & SA1 exam. Those students of Senior Secondary schools who wish to move out of the CBSE system after class X (i.e. Pre-University, Vocational course, Change of Board etc.) will be required to take Board's extend examination (SA2).

" The introduction of CCE – will lead to a holistic assessment of the students" was said by Mrs.Gill.

There was a healthy inter-action between parents and teachers – which helped in clearing all the doubts and confusion carried by parents regarding CCE.

In the end, Principal Mrs.Gill thanked parents for their good response to the meeting and emphasised on the importance of three agencies parents – teachers and students working together in shaping the overall personality of a child.

Parents were finally urged to cooperate with the school authorities to make

' Teaching- Learning more effective.'
