Sensex off day`s high; Mahindra Satyam most active

The Sensex pared some of its gains due to profit booking seen in select index pivotals and is trading off day`s high (20,267.98). Metal, consumer durable and realty continues to trade in green, while FMCG, IT and teck edged lower.



At 14.45., the Sensex was trading up 68.46 points or 0.34% at 20,113.64 with 19 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 11.95 points or 0.20% at 6,030.25 with 26 components gaining.



The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 37.08 points or 0.18% at 20,082.26, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a fall of 58.85 points or 0.98%, at 5,959.45.



Sensex Movers



Reliance Industries contributed rise of 13.3 points in the Sensex. It was followed by State Bank Of India (12.34 points), Hindalco Industries (12 points), Tata Steel (11.66 points) and Larsen & Toubro (10.21 points).



However, H D F C Bank contributed fall of 17.93 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Hindustan Unilever (7.32 points), Housing Development Finance Corporation (7.3 points), I T C (6.61 points) and Tata Consultancy Services (2.98 points).



Major gainers in the 30-share index were Hindalco Industries (3.61%), Sterlite Industries (India) (2.49%), Tata Steel (2.33%), NTPC (2.01%), Bharti Airtel (1.56%), and Tata Motors (1.28%).



On the other hand, Hindustan Unilever (1.81%), H D F C Bank (1.55%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (0.62%), I T C (0.56%), Tata Consultancy Services (0.42%), and ACC (0.39%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.



Mid & Small-cap Space



The Midcap and Smallcap index rose 0.25% and 0.16% respectively.



Sectors in Limelight



The Metal index was at 16,987.82, up by 335.99 points or by 2.02%. The major gainers were Hindalco Industries (3.61%), JSW Steel (3.16%), Hindustan Zinc (2.36%), National Aluminium Company (0.99%) and Jindal Steel & Power (0.91%).



The Realty index was at 3,747.52, up by 51.53 points or by 1.39%. The major gainers were Indiabulls Real Estate (1.81%), Housing Development and Infrastructure (1.75%), D B Realty (1.4%), D L F (0.97%) and Sunteck Realty (0.74%).



The Consumer Durables index was at 6,401.76, up by 83.00 points or by 1.31%. The major gainers were Bajaj Electricals (1.22%), Titan Industries (1.19%), Rajesh Exports (0.91%), Blue Star (0.91%) and Gitanjali Gems (0.37%).



On the other hand, the FMCG index was at 3,721.73, down by 30.44 points or by 0.81%. The major losers were United Spirits (1.81%), Hindustan Unilever (1.81%), Godrej Consumer Products (1.8%), I T C (0.56%) and Colgate-Palmolive (India) (0.38%).



Market Breadth



Market breadth was positive with 1,611 advances against 1,398 declines.



Value and Volume Toppers



Mahindra Satyam topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,666.32 million. It was followed by Tata Steel (Rs. 927.39 million), State Bank Of India (Rs. 863.12 million) and Money Matters Financial Services (Rs. 711.94 million).



The volume chart was led by Cals Refineries with trades of over 42.19 million shares. It was followed by Mahindra Satyam (17.38 million), Resurgere Mines and Minerals India (15.17 million) and Development Credit Bank (6.41 million).
