COTTON FARMERS FROM BRAZIL VISIT PAU, INTERACT WITH DR. KANG

A four-member team of cotton growers from Brazil led by Mr. Pierre Marie Jeane Patriat, President of Cotton Growers Association, Brazil visited Punjab Agricultural University, today. The other members included Mr. Leonardo Tomezik, Vice-President of farmers association, Mr. Carlo Emesto Augustin and Ms Andriea B Santos, Secretary of Agricultural Producers Association, Brazil. In an interactive meeting with Dr. Manjit Singh Kang, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, Mr. Patriat said that they considered PAU in high esteem due to the pivotal role that the University played in making the country self-sufficient on food front and addressing the other agrarian issues. Dr. Kang said that in the globalized world one country could learn from the experience of other and that collaboration proves useful in making progress in the desired direction. He apprised the visitors about the research, teaching and transfer of technology progrmmes of the University and highlighted that there were many commonalities in Indian and Brazilian agriculture.



After visiting the Directorate of Seeds and Department of Seed Science and Technology, Mr. Patriat said that his group was greatly impressed with the activities and programmes of PAU. The group paid a visit to the fields of a progressive grower, Mr. Baldev Singh Brar at Singhawala near Moga and interacted with him about the cropping pattern prevalent in Punjab. Mr. Patriat said that he will endeavour for holding interactive discussions between Brazilian and Punjabi farmers. Dr. Kang presented a set of information docket about PAU to the group.
