President Patil to visit Leh tomorrow

President Pratibha Devisingh Patil will visit Leh on Wednesday, which was hit by a cloudburst and flash floods on August 6.



During her stay, President Patil will tour the affected areas and meet the people at the relief camp.



She will also be briefed by civil and military officials about the ongoing relief and rehabilitation operations following the cloudburst.



She will distribute shawls and sweaters to the affected people in the camp.



Later, she will address defence personnel in Leh.



Over 189, including 18 Nepali and Tibetan workers, three French, one Spanish and one Italian tourist were killed and around 500 people sustained injuries in the natural calamity.



Flash floods and mudslides have swept the road links and bridges in the area. The deluge has damaged hospitals, schools, government buildings, bus terminals, radio station transmitter, telephone exchange and mobile-phone towers.



Five villages Sabu, Phyang, Nimoo, Choglumsar and Shapoo are worst hit by the flash floods. Old Leh city was also among the worst affected.
