PAU HOLD LIBRARY ORIENTATION FOR FACULTY AND STUDENTS

To apprise the students and faculty members of PAU about the facilities and services available in the Dr. M.S.Randhawa Library of the University, an orientation programme was conducted wherein faculty, students, research scholars participated. Dr. Manjit Singh Kang, Vice-Chancellor, PAU said that in the age of internet connectivity, the information in the libraries can be accessed effectively. He said that the library provides enormous services to readers, now than ever before.



The Librarian, Dr. (Mrs.) J.K.Sangha highlighted the online activities as well as CD-ROM databases and other softwares in the direction of automation. Mr. Kanwal Narula and Miss Sunidhi Bala projected the web page, OPAC and other modes of library use through power point presentation. Miss Yogita Sharma and Mr. Sanjiv Kumar guided users to make their profiles in consortium of e-Resources in Agriculture (CeRA) to avail of more than 6000 on-line journals. The use of J-Gate databases to have access to more than 2000 on-line journals pertaining to agricultural and biological sciences and Indian doctoral theses (Krishi Prabha), a database of Ph. D dissertations with effect from 2000 in Indian Agricultural Universities was also explained. Dr. Sangha said that the PAU Library has emerged Knowledge Resource Centre having more than 3.5 lakh documents to its users from 9.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. on all working days. One reading hall with the sitting capacity of 40 is open day and night even on holidays. Two of its centrally air-conditioned reading halls are with Wi-Fi Internet connectivity. She elaborated that internet bases library services are provided to its users free of charges.
