TRAINING PROGRAMME ON MICRO IRRIGATION

The Precision Farming Development Centre (PFDC), Department of Soil and Water Engineering, PAU, in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Faridkot organized a training programme for the farmers on 'micro irrigation'. In his welcome address, Dr. J.S. Brar Deputy Director said that training on micro irrigation help educate farmers about how we can use water efficiently and to check the lowering water table of our state. Er. Nilesh Biwalkar discussed drip irrigation system and explained about the handling and maintenance of the drip irrigation system. Mr. Biwalkar also explained how farmers can provide fertilizers efficiently with the help of drip irrigation. Farmers' were also told about the field problems of the drip irrigation system and their remedy. Dr. Mukesh Siag elaborated about vegetable production by using drip irrigation system. He added that it is advantageous if, farmers are growing vegetable by using drip irrigation system because it is not only increase the yield but also improves the quality of produce.

Dr. Rakesh Sharda Principal Investigator of the PFDC said that in all 50 farmers participated in the one day training programme. Such training programmes are being regularly organized by the PFDC. One day training programme for the farmers' are organized at KVKs and two day training programme for the officers of the state government and farmers are organized at PAU, Ludhiana The trainings are imparted in the fields of micro irrigation, protected cultivation, construction of water storage tanks and maintenance of micro irrigation system.
