Peace is a strategic Israeli objective, Defense Minister Ehud Barak told the King of Jordan in a meeting in Amman on Sunday. Barak met with King Abdullah II ahead of the upcoming Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, which are scheduled to begin this Thursday in Washington.

The King of Jordan spoke about the need to arrive at a two state solution, while emphasizing that both parties must negotiate with seriousness and honesty in order to allow for a fast resolution on core issues which will lead to a permanent agreement.

A comprehensive peace, including all of the Middle East begins by finding a solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, King Abdullah said. \"This will be the real guarantee for security and stability in the region.\"

\"Obtaining peace in the Middle East is a strategic interest of the region and the international community. Therefore, everyone must invest efforts in order to make the negotiations succeed in the fastest way possible.\"

Responding to U.S. President Barack Obama\'s invitation to come to Washington for the peace talks, King Abdullah said earlier this month \"Jordan highly appreciates the commitment of President Obama and the U.S. administration to the establishment of peace in the region and urges the continuation of pivotal role of the United States in leading the negotiation process.\"

Earlier on Sunday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed hope for the upcoming Washington summit, saying that the parties could reach a stable peace that could last for generations.
