PAU CLINCHES OVERALL CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY IN SPORTS FOR FOURTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR

LUDHIANA, MARCH 18:





The students of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) have brought laurels to the University by clinching overall championship trophy in sports consecutively for the fourth year, during XIV All India Inter-Agricultural University Sports and Games Meet for the session 2012-13. The meet was organized at Karnataka Veterinary Animal and Fisheries Sciences University (KVAFSU), Bidar from March 6-10.



Giving details, Dr Balwinder Singh, Director Students' Welfare, informed that the PAU won four gold medals, and one silver and one bronze medal during the meet. The PAU contingent, consisting of 48 students from the constituent colleges of the University and four officials participated in Athletic (Men & Women), Basketball (Men & Women), Badminton (Men & Women), Table Tennis (Men & Women) and Volleyball (Men).



The PAU Vice-Chancellor, Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon congratulated the winning members of the contingent and lauded the achievements of PAU sportspersons.







In Basketball (Men), the PAU team won gold medal by defeating Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, by 35-24. The team comprised students namely Raj Kamal Singh and Sumer S. Aulakh (Agri-Engineering), Nikhil Khera (Basic Sciences), and Piyush Sharma, Amandeep Singh, Tejinder Singh, Aalamdeep Singh, Sanjamveer Singh, Jagdeep Singh, Gurjeet Singh, and Hardeep Singh (Agriculture).







In Badminton (Men), the team won gold medal by defeating Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar by 2-0. The team included students namely Gurbaksh Singh (Agri-Engineering), and Chanpreet Singh, Amit Bhasin and Puneet Inder Singh Grewal (Agriculture).







In Badminton (Women), the PAU team won gold medal defeating Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar by 2-0. The team comprised students namely Harveen Kaur and Kashish Sharma (Home Science), and Rohini Thakur and Jashandeep Kaur (Agriculture).





In Table Tennis (Women), the PAU team won gold medal in defeating KVAFSU, Bidar, by 3-1. The team consisted of students namely Tanvi (Agriculture), Gurpreet Kaur (Agri-Engineering) and Prapti and Shweta Chauhan (Home Science).





In Athletics (Men), Raj Kamal Singh Dhillon and Azadwinder Singh (Agri-Engineering) won silver medal and bronze medal in long jump and high jump, respectively.



S. Charanjit Singh, Badminton Coach, led the contingent along with S. Jaspal Singh, SAI Table Tennis Coach, PAU, S. Harjinder Singh, SAI Basketball Coach and S. Inderjit Singh, SAI Handball Coach.
