PAU VC WELCOMES ENHANCEMENT IN UNIVERSITY BUDGET TO RS 300 CRORE

LUDHIANA, MARCH 20:---



The Vice-Chancellor of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon has expressed his sincere thankfulness to the state government for raising the annual grant-in-aid of the University from Rs 270 crore in 2012-13 to Rs 300 crore in 2013-14. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Minister of Punjab, S. Prakash Singh Badal and the State Finance Minister, S. Parminder Singh Dhindsa. Dr Dhillon stated that the enhancement in PAU Budget will enable the University in meeting the salary as well as pension liabilities. He also welcomed the decision of payment of pay commission arrears for employees of PAU in the first quarter of 2013-14.



Dr. Dhillon hailed the state government's decision of making provision of Rs 100 crore for the National Horticulture Mission, and Rs 85 crore for the encouragement of the cultivation of pulses, cotton and oilseeds. This allocation will go a long way in promoting the crop diversification including the development of horticulture in the state, he added.



The Vice Chancellor welcomed the announcement of providing 25 per cent subsidy for the purchase of baler machine and this in combination with the target of generating 800 MW electricity from paddy straw is a well thought-of plan. He added that the exercise will help in controlling stubble burning besides being beneficial from economical and environmental point of view. Dr Dhillon also appreciated the deep concern of the state government for the border area farmers in the budget.
