PAU STUDENTS WIN LAURELS AT STATE AND NATIONAL LEVEL

LUDHIANA, MARCH 29:



Two students of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) namely Khushmeet K. Bains and Shruti Chopra have brought laurels to the University by bagging awards and honours at the national and the state level.



Khushmeet K. Bains, an M.SC (Botany) student of the PAU, has bagged "Shaheed-e-Aazam Bhagat Singh State Youth Award" in recognition of her active participation in the youth activities. Mr. N.K. Sharma, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Punjab Government; Sh. Ashok Gupta, Secretary, Sports and Youth Services, Punjab; and Mrs Hirdai Pal Kaur, Director, Youth Services, Punjab; presented a medal, citation, and a cash prize of Rs 20,000 to the University student during the award giving ceremony, organized by the Department of Youth Services, Punjab, Chandigarh, on March 28, at Shivalik Public School, Mohali. Khushmeet Bains is also a recipient of Indira Gandhi NSS Award 2011, presented by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. Dr S.K. Thind, Head, Department of Botany, and Dr Pushp Sharma, Major Advisor of Khushmeet Bains, congratulated her for this big achievement.







Meanwhile, a Ph.D (Agri-Economics) student of the PAU, Shruti Chopra won third prize during the National Student Research Convention "ANVESHAN 2013," organized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) at Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai. Dr Ram Pani, Chairman, AIU, and Dr Parshuram, Director, TISS, presented the University student a cash prize of Rs 10,000 for her poster and power point presentation on the topic entitled, "Changing Pattern of Consumption and Implications for Food Security in India."







Dr Gursharan Singh, Dean, Postgraduate Studies and President of PAU Science Club; Dr B.S. Sohal, Secretary of PAU Science Club; Dr M.S. Toor, Professor of Economics-cum- Major Advisor of Shruti Chopra; and Dr Kamal Vatta, Associate Professor of Economics, lauded the accomplishment of the student.



Dr Singh highlighted that earlier, the PAU students namely Meenakshi (Ph.D-Biochemistry) and Shruti Chopra (Ph.D Agri-Economics) won second and third prizes, respectively, during the zonal level competition of "ANVESHAN," held at Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, Haryana. He further said that the visit of the students to Mumbai and Kurukshetra was sponsored by the PAU Science Club. Shruti Chopra thanked her advisors and the PAU Science Club for their kind support in the competition.
