LECTURE ON STRUCTURE ELUCIDATION ORGANISED AT PAU

LUDHIANA, MARCH 8:

A lecture on "Structure Elucidation Using NMR Including 2D Techniques" was organized by the Department of Chemistry of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). Dr Pawan Kumar Sharma, Associate Professor of Chemistry, Kurukshetra University, Haryana Agriculture University, Hissar, delivered the talk, held under the aegis of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi.

Dr Sharma said that the subject-matter of the lecture has an ample application in agriculture academically as well as professionally. This may prove very useful for the students as well as the faculty for the structure elucidation of natural agro-chemicals, he observed. Dr Sharma dwelt upon the use of NMR spectroscopy for the structure elucidation of organic molecules. He referred to the small molecule which was judicially shifted to complex molecules and informed that this included the use of modern advancements meant in using NMR spectroscopy including COSY, NOESY, ROESY, HEPT, DEPT, NOE and INADEQUATE techniques.

Earlier, in her welcome address, Dr K.K. Chahal, Professor-cum-Head, Department of Chemistry, PAU, highlighted the mandate and the activities of the department. The faculty and the students of the department were sensitized on the importance of use of spectroscopy elucidation.
