Rs 6-cr community centre inaugurated in Sector 48, can accommodate 300

A community centre was inaugurated in Sector 48 by UT Home Secretary Anil Kumar on Tuesday. Constructed at a cost of Rs 6 crore, it is among the biggest community centres in the city. It will be the 42nd community sector in Chandigarh and will have a capacity to accommodate around 300 people.



Addressing the gathering, the Home Secretary said the centre would be very useful for the local residents to hold their social programmes. He said the residents, who can not afford the marriage palaces on the city\'s outskirts, now have a very good option in their own area to organise their programmes according to their budget.



Mayor Subhash Chawla said with the facility of a gym and a carrom room and table tennis room, the area residents and children would have a good option for many physical activities under one roof.



He said the municipal corporation had made access to the community centre easier by framing people-friendly bylaws. He further said there would be trainers in the gymnasium as well as for other games and a librarian in the libraries where required.



Also, the community centre has an air-conditioned hall with a modular kitchen, office room, library with computer facility and a card room among other facilities. A jan sampark centre will be made operational shortly and booking of the community centre for marriage purposes and other programmes will be started soon.



The centre will also provide parking facility for 70 cars and 50 two-wheelers.



Area councillor Devesh Moudgil said the project of Food Street in the area was ready to open. He stated that the pending demand of the area residents to provide basic amenities in the internal parts of societies be solved as early as possible.



He added that with the inauguration of this community centre the area residents will have now have facility for holding marriage functions.
