581 slum dwellers get flats in draw of lots

Four months after Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal announced that he would be handing over the keys of flats built for slum dwellers at Gyaspura on August 15 but failed to do so, the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation on Monday conducted the draw of lots for these flats.

Now Sukhbir will be handing over the keys to the beneficiaries during his visit on November 15.

The Deputy Chief Minister will also lay foundation stones of major projects like eight-laning of Ferozepur road and development works worth Rs 88 crore in various wards.

These flats have been built under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURUM) with funds from the Centre, state and Municipal Corporation.

On Monday, a total of 581 beneficiaries were allotted flats through draw of lots which comprised 103 from Labour Colony and 478 from Jamuna Colony.

\"Out of a total of 1,099 flats, 581 were allotted on Monday. The remaining beneficiaries from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar will be allotted the same on

Tuesday at Leisure Valley,\" said SDO Harpal Bhullar, adding that the entire procedure was videotaped.
