Iranian deputy minister shot dead in Tehran
Iran's Deputy Industry Minister Safdar Rahmat Aabadi has been been shot dead according to a state news agency report. The minister was shot twice as he got into his car in the capital Tehran.
Police have said the attacker appeared to have been inside the vehicle and spoke to his victim before opening fire.
There has been a surge of attacks against Iranian military and provincial officials in recent weeks, but Rahmat Aabadi's killing is the first reported fatal shooting of a central government official in years.
It is not known why the deputy minister was targeted and no one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
