Modi\'s \'Khooni panja\' remark: Congress complains to EC

Chairman of Legal Cell of the Congress Party K C Mittal on Sunday criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party\'s (BJP) prime ministerial aspirant Narendra Modi for calling the election symbol of the Congress as \'Khooni Panja\' (bloodied hand), and said the party has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission demanding stern action against Modi and the saffron outfit.

\"We have lodged a complaint with Election Commission (EC); now it\'s up to EC to take a decision. We have demanded stern action against Narendra Modi and BJP. This is complete breach of the model code of conduct,\" he said.

He further said that this is a case of defamation, and added that it is an attempt to malign the image of the Congress Party.

\"It is a symbol, which represents a political party on the basis of which a voter cast his or her vote. Congress is a national registered party. Election commission has made a model code of conduct; everyone has to abide by that. He (Modi) must have some control over his words. This is just a way to mislead people,\" he added.

Modi made these remarks against the Congress Party at a rally at Dongargarh in Chhattisgarh on Thursday. He has said if people wished that no shadow of the \'khooni panja\' should fall over the state, they should vote for the lotus (BJP\'s election symbol) and save their state from such a hand.

Eighteen Constituencies spread over eight districts in south Chhattisgarh will witness voting on November 11 while the remaining 72 segments will go into polls on November 19. The results of the Chhattisgarh elections, along with those in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi, will be declared on December 8.
