LUDHIANA: Setting an example of the spirit of Diwali, a nine year old girl from a business family of Rajguru Nagar paints diyas and sells them to raise money for the underprivileged so that they can also celebrate the festival of lights. Arhana Ahuja, 9, daughter of businessman Sachin Ahuja and homemaker Kriti Ahuja of Rajguru Nagar and a Class III student of Sacred Heart Convent School, Sarabha Nagar has collected Rs 1,600 by selling diyas she painted during a two-day exhibition at her home.
\"We celebrate Diwali in a grand manner, with the best of clothes, decorated houses and choicest cuisine but poor people, especially children find it hard to get food to survive. That is why I organized the exhibition. I discussed it with my parents, who agreed instantly. I got unfinished Diyas from the market and painted them. My parents spread the word. Luckily, the idea clicked and I sold all the diyas I displayed. The money will be donated in charity so that poor people can also celebrate\".
Arhana parents are proud of their little, altruistic daughter. Sachin Ahuja, \"Not many children think this way. If we celebrate Diwali like this, poor people can also have memorable celebrations. She is giving away all the money from the exhibition for charity\".
