PAU MOVES TOWARDS COMMERCIALIZATION OF TECHNOLOGIES, INKS PACT WITH INTERNATIONAL PANAACEA LIMITED

LUDHIANA, JULY 8:

The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in a move to commercialize its technologies, inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with International Panaacea Limited (IPL), New Delhi, one of the leading manufacturers of bio-fertilizer, bio-pesticides and other bio-products, here today. Dr S.S. Gosal, Director of Research, PAU, and Mr Kundar Singh Bisht, Director of IPL, signed the MoU on behalf of the University and IPL company, respectively, for licensing of Trichoderma.

The Vice-Chancellor of PAU, Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, lauded the new partnership and said that the Trichoderma harzianum is a biological control agent, which is eco-friendly. Its use will avoid the problem of pesticide residue which is common with the use of chemical control agents, said Dr. Dhillon.

Dr Gosal said that under the signed pact, the PAU, developer of the "Trichoderma harzianum strain" against Foot Rot disease of Basmati rice, will provide the required strain to the IPL. The IPL after getting its registration done with Central Insecticide Board (CIB), Faridabad, will manufacture and market the final product as bio-pesticide against the Foot Rot of Basmati rice. Dr Gosal said that this MoU will be beneficial for the farmers as they will be getting a quality bio-pesticide in the market.

Dr Pushpinder Pal Singh, Head, Department of Plant Pathology, highlighted that as the Foot Rot is a serious disease in Basmati rice, use of Trichoderma will be an eco-friendly method for the disease control in the crop.

Dr Narinder Singh, Senior Plant Pathologist, and the developer of the Trichoderma strain, mentioned that this pact will play a pivotal role in enhancing the basmati production in the Punjab state.

Dr T.S. Thind, Professor Emeritus (Plant Pathology), observed that the use of Trichoderma will not leave any toxic residues in the environment.

Other PAU senior officials present on this occasion included Dr H.S. Sehgal, Additional Director of Communication PAU, Dr P.S.Chahal, Associate Director of Research, and Dr S.S.Chahal Director, Intellectual Property Rights Cell. Mr R.K.Anand, Vice- President IPL, was also present on this occasion.
