Sanjay Dutt\'s friends talk about missing the star on his birthday

Tuesday, Jul 30, 2013(7STARNEWS)Milan Luthria :I was the first person Sanju signed when he started his production house. My commitment to Sanjay Dutt is not about signing a document but a life-long commitment of friendship. I first met him on sets of Gumraah where I was an assistant director. We hit it off from day one. More than anything I miss his phone calls. On his birthday morning I felt gloomy. But then I reminded myself of his spirit. I wish I could've met him for a second but... Before he left I met him at his home and told him that he is India's Al Pacino, Sean Connery and Robert De Niro. And I promised to help him hit the purple patch of his career once more..

Sanjay's birthday is entrenched in my heart. It's the time for bonding between friends and family, accompanied by lots of laughter, good food and music. That's how we celebrate his birthdays. Yesterday was a dampener. It feels strange this year that he wasn't there. I have been sending letters to Sanjay through bhabhi (Manaayata). I have told him to 'be strong.' I wished him great health and strength. Sanjay is like my elder brother. Before he went inside we hardly spoke but gave each other a hug that said it all. Men aren't supposed to cry. On Sunday, Apoorva and I went with a group of 16-year old Sanawarians to meet Mr Amitabh Bachchan. We all were there but the person who was missed the most was Sanjay Dutt.

We are both Sanawarians. We first met in 1976 when I went to Sanawar when I was 6 years old and Sanju sir was in the 12th standard. He was the senior prefect of our house and he came to our dormitory to give the new kids a pep talk. Sanju sir has always been very kind and supportive. He did a song for Ek Ajnabi for free. On his birthday every year we go to his house and chill. I miss him more as my film Zanjeer is on release. Befere he left he told me, 'Write a few scripts because I will come back with a bang!' A day before he went in, he shot the last sequence of Zanjeer. All the crew members were crying He told us, 'I have faced many things in life but thank God, it's finally getting over.' He remembers the name of the entire crew. Sanju sir is a rockstar!
