Railway department shifts focus on safety measures

LUDHIANA : Railway authorities have started taking measures to prevent train mishaps and other accidents through special presentations being conducted in the division. Officials said the main aim is to increase coordination among various sections of the department and the move would not be limited to seminars as mock drills would also be carried out to check preparedness.

This is the first time that authorities have conducted any such meeting in Ferozepur division.

Notably, there was a seminar in Delhi during November when the representatives from Army, Navy, Air Force, railways and civil police from all across country presented their views regarding increasing protection in the country. Officials shared their views on coordination among security forces in wake of 26/11.

Sources said authorities were trying to improve the working of employees and were bringing a sense of responsibility in them. The head of departments were asked to present their reports on how they would respond in case of emergencies.

Senior divisional commercial manager Dharmendra Kumar said the authorities were working on the development of a technology for safety of commuters. ''But this will only help if the staff is equipped with knowledge and remain alert round the clock,'' Kumar added.

He asserted that coordination among all sections of the department was yet another important aspect for smooth functioning.
