Punjab CM granted Rs 195 lakh to 32 Panchayats

HOSHIARPUR : Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal distributed grants worth Rs 195.19 lakh among 32 panchayats. He also listened to public grievances at a sangat darshan programme at Maharaja Brahm Bhuriwale Garib Dass Ji college, Jhonewal, in Garhshankar block.

Sarpanches and people told the Chief Minister that they were facing an acute shortage of drinking water, lack of irrigation, soil erosion and damaged roads due to floods during the rainy season. They also complained irregular power supply in the area.

Addressing a gathering after listening to their problems, Badal said to meet the shortage of potable water and to provide irrigation facilities, he had instructed the authorities concerned to install 14 deep tubewells for which he had sanctioned Rs 12 crore.

To provide regular and uninterrupted power supply, a 66 KW substation would be set up at Dalewal village. A 30-bed community health centre would also be constructed there for providing health facilities to the people of the area. An 18-foot wide paved road from Dalewal to Kurali would be constructed.

Instructing officials of the Drainage and Soil Conservation Departments to construct guide bands at all those places where soil erosion took place to save the lands, Badal said the Naib-Tehsildars would remain in the area for three days in a week to get all revenue works of the inhabitants done.
