Congress believes in integrating the country: PM

New Delhi, : Stating that the Congress was a party which believes in integrating the country socially and politically, Dr Singh appealed to the partymen to take the Congress to the common man as any political party derives its strength from grassroot level.Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said the country has faced major challenges of terrorism, communalism, naxalism and regionalism which only the Congress was capable of facing as it accommodates people of all ideologies and tries to solve their problems and complaints through dialogue.

While addressing the foundation stone laying ceremony of Congress Headquarters \'\'Indira Gandhi Bhavan\'\' by party president Sonia Gandhi to mark the 125th formation anniversary of Congress Prime minister said \'\'If the Congress weakens, the country would become weak. So our first responsibility is to strengthen the Congress as a political party. We have a lot of challenges to face. But we have faced challenges earlier also and our quality is that we change with changing time. I believe that with fast changing time, we will bring changes in our party. We are fortunate that to do so, we have got a leader like Sonia Gandhi,\'\' the Prime Minister said. Laying the foundation stone, Congress president Sonia Gandhi said the 125th anniversary was the occasion to remember the leaders who made the Congress a great party and commit to \'build a golden future on the foundation of glorious past, adding that the Congress has valuable heritage and she would endeavour to safeguard it for the future generation and try to build a strong nation. Ms Gandhi said the Congress has always worked for the social and economic development of people and make a secular, democratic, just and equitable society and the nation. It has been working to empower the deprived and weaker sections of the society and bring tradition and modernity together. She said during the next one year, Congress would try to fulfill the expectations of the people who have supported the party throughout.
