Raninder Singh re-elected NRAI president

NEW DELHI/CHANDIGARH: Saturday, April, 06 2013 - 17:35



Raninder Singh has been re-elected unopposed as president of National Rifle Association of India (NRAI).



The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) is the apex sporting body of the shooting games in the country.



The term will last four years.



This is Raninder's second innings as president. He was earlier elected president of the association in December 2010 by defeating Shyam Singh Yadav by a huge margin.



46-year-old Raninder represents Punjab in NRAI's governing body. He is a trap shooter and has also participated in ISSF World Cup and various national championships.



He got an overwhelming support from across the country getting 517 votes out of 843 for the authorisation to nominate members to the general house.



The vice-presidents elected were Ajay Patel (Gujarat), Deep Bhatia (Haryana), Putuul Kumari (Bihar), MS Rana (Uttarakhand) and Kalikesh Kumar (Odisha).



Tamil Nadu\'s DVS Rao has been appointed to the post of secretary general while Jagmeet Singh Sethi and Darius Chennai have been elected as joint secretaries.



The shooting federation appointed Sanjay Behl to the post of treasurer. It was learnt that Raninder\'s father and former Punjab chief minister, Capt Amarinder Singh was also present during the elections.



The NRAI also elected 16 governing body members. They are Atul Behroor, A K Singh, Ashok K Kumar Chatterjee, Devasia Kurien, Gurjeet Singh Ujala, Eshan Rohal, J S Marwah, Karan Kumar, Kishan Avatar Sethi, Neil Soopinck, Pawan Kumar Singh, R Ravi Krishnan, Rajesh Jagdale, Rosangliana Ralte, Subhash Rana, Surender Dutt Sharma.
