Vet Varsity gets battery of officers and HODs

Ludhiana 24-june-2011.



In an important development at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University two officers and five HODs joined in the different departments. While delivering the information Dr. P.D, Juyal Registrar of university told that Dr.S.P.S.Sangha joined as DSW cum Estate Officer.He has a teaching experience of more than 27 years in the field of Veterinary Biochemistry. He has guided 12 students for their Master\'s thesis and has about 50 research publications in various national and international journals.He has served the university in various positions including that of Head of the Department of Veterinary Biochemistry & Controller Of Examinations, GADVASU. Currently he is also holding the additional charge of Dean,College of Dairy Sciences & Technology.

Dr S Prabhakar has joined as Controller of Examinations.He has put in 24 years of service including service as Head of the Department of Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex. Dr Prabhakar has worked extensively on calving abnormalities in buffaloes and has published 168 papers in different international and national journals of repute besides presenting papers in several conferences. He has guided 7 MVSc and one PhD student. Dr Prabhakar has pursued post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Liverpool, UK. He is fellow of the Indian Society for the Study of Animal Reproduction (ISSAR). Dr Prabhakar has been awarded Young Scientist award by the ISSAR twice for best scientific presentations in national symposia. He is a member of several national scientific societies.

Dr. S. S. Sikka, Senior Nutritionist took over as HOD of Animal Nutrition. Dr. Sikka started his carrier in March 1980. Dr. Sikka was honoured as Fellow; Animal Nutrition Association of India.Dr. Sikka was bestowed with "SHIKSHA RATTAN PURASKAR-2007" by India International Friendship Society, New Delhi and "Best Trainee Award' by The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel in 1999. He handled five research projects as Principal/ Co-Principal investigator, guided three M.V.Sc. and one Ph.D. students and produced several recommendations for the farmers. He contributed a Policy Paper entitled "Antibiotics in Manure and Soil – Grave Threat to Human and Animal Health" to NAAS, New Delhi. Animal Nutrition Association for his meritorious services, outstanding performance and remarkable contributions in the field of Animal Nutrition admitted him Fellow of the Association.

Dr. Digvijay Singh has joined as HOD, Veterinary Physiology and Biochemistry. He has published 34 research papers in journals of national and international repute, successfully completed the first private sector research project undertaken by GADVASU entitled "Effect of Herbal formulation on digestibility and nutrient utilization of wheat straw in buffalo calves" sponsored by AYURVET, BADDI, guided 3 M.V. Sc. Students and compiled 3 manuals. Besides being a referee to a number of journals, he has 2 best research paper presentation awards and 'BHARAT JYOTI AWARD'. Dr Singh is a life member of a number of scientific societies besides being an executive member of Society of Animal Physiologists of India(SAPI).

Dr Sanjeev Kumar Uppal joined as HOD of Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex. Professor Uppal is a clinician and has put in more than 20 years of experience in teaching, research and extension activities. He has guided 5 MVSc students and published 45 research and clinical articles in national and international referred journals. He is a Fellow of National Academy of Veterinary Sciences of India and has been awarded prestigious German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Scholarship for PhD and Commonwealth Academic Staff Post Doctorate Fellowship tenable at University of Liverpool, UK.. Recently he has also been awarded "DC Blood Gold Medal" for contribution in field of Veterinary Medicine by Indian Society for Veterinary Medicine.

Prof. Narinder Singh Sharma has been appointed as HOD, Veterinary Microbiology. Dr Sharma was instrumental in establishing Clinical Bacteriology Laboratory, Mycology and Mycotoxin Laboratory, Molecular Biology Lab and in adopting and popularizing a rapid and simple test for the detection of aflatoxins which is widely accepted with economic utilization. Dr Sharma has to his credit 2 Review papers, 45 research papers, 28 proceeding papers, 31 extension articles, 5 laboratory manuals, chapters in books and 70 conference presentations. He has attended 25 National and 3 International Conferences. He has attended Joint FAO/WHO Expert meeting at FAO Headquarter, Rome on Animal Feed Impact on Food Safety.

Lachhman Das Singla, Joined HOD. Veterinary Parasitology.His major research interests include Parasite epidemiology, pharmacokinetics, chemotherapeutics, diagnostics, immunomodulatory and immunoprophylactic approaches for the management of parasitic infections. He is recipient of fellowship of Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, M.S. Randhawa medal, Dr. B.V. Rao gold medal and Siksha Rattan Puruskar for meritorious services in Veterinary education and research. He is widely traveled (Australia, Canada, China, Denmark, France, Italy, Nepal, New Zealand, Scotland and Vietnam) person for attending various Parasitological and other scientific meetings. Recently, worked as visiting scientist in molecular diagnosis at University of Tennessee, USA.
