We are better equipped to face climate change: Dr R.T Patil

Ludhiana, June 21:



"India can better face the adversities of climatic change than developed world", this was stated by Dr R.T Patil, Director, Central Institute of Post Harvest Engineering and Technology (CIPHET), during the valedictory function of 21-day long summer school on Advances in Bio-processing/ Bio-engineering and Quality Assessment Techniques here today.

Distributing the certificates to participants on successful completion of summer school, Dr R.T Patil said that all over the globe there were concerns over decrease in agricultural productivity owing to affects of climate change. "Agriculture in India is different from developed world. We have small landholdings and also our agriculture manpower is distributed," he said, adding that in large landholdings like America it would be very difficult to control affects of climate change. "We are better equipped as small is easy to mange."

Calling post harvest second half of agriculture, Dr R.T Patil, said that once again there was growing interest in agriculture. "Food processing sector and organic farming are opening up new avenues," he added. Addressing participants, Dr R.T Patil, said that they would encourage collaborative projects with scientists of other institutions, who participants in the summer school. He also gave an open invitation to participants to use CIPHET facilities, if they require anytime in future.

Principal Scientist Dr S Balasubramaniam said that 21-day summer school included 38 lecturers and 25 practicals. He said that feedback from participants was excellent. "Above 90 percent responded positively to relevance of course content. Head Transfer of Technology Division Dr Deepak Raj Rai and Head AS&EC Division Dr S. N Jha were also present on the occasion.
