SEMINARR ON “WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN NEED OF CARE, PROTECTION AND FREE LEGAL AID” ORGANISED

S.C.D Government College Ludhiana today organised one day seminar on "Women and Childeren in Need of Care, Protection and Free Legal aid" in collaboration with the Legal Services Authority Ludhiana. The seminar was organised to create awareness among the youth specially girls students regarding legal remedies awailable to them in case they face any kind of harrasement with regard to their rights , on the job or while moving in the society. The key note address was given by Mr Justice K.K. Singla, Chief Judicial Megistrate cum Secretary Legal services authority Ludhiana. He apprised the students regarding the procedure of getting the free legal aid . He expressed his unhappiness over the incidents occuring on daily basis regarding the sexual harrasement, child abuse and others involving passing of remarks by anti-social eliments while girl students move in the public places. He said that free legal aid is available in which an advocate is provided to the victim to fight in court and present her case even from the court of tehsildar to the High Court and Supreme Court. He urge the students to create awareness among the fellow citizens regarding free legal aid services provided by the Government so that a clean and uplifted society can be created. Mr. Justice J.S. Chawla, Chairman of Permanant Lok Adalat Ludhiana while delivering his address focussed on the utility of Lok Adalats to settle the family and other disputes at no cost and with time effectiveness. Prof. Rajinder Singh Principal of the College said we are considered to be backward as comapred to countries like US, UK, Japan bacause we donot respect the women in true spirit. He said that people talk about welcoming the birth of girl child in the home but when the question of giving the right to them arises there is a gender bias even in the reputed families. Dr. Ashwani Bhalla while speaking on the occassion said that creating awareness regarding the legal issues is a vital task and efforts should be made to spread awareness among the girls to make them legally literate so that in the society with so many evils cleanliness drive can be started . He said that Government College Ludhiana is totally ragging free college and efforts has been made to make the students aware regarding the bad effects and ills of ragging to create better educational environment in the college. Prof. Rajinder expressed his vote of thanks to the law authorities of ludhiana for organising such a educative seminar in the college. In the seminar around 400 voluteers of boys and girls participated under the leadership of Prof. Puran Singh Associate Professor in the department of Economics. Vice Principal of the College Mrs Poonam Mittal and Head boy of NSS Mr. Diwakar Chopra were also present on the occassion.
