Vet Varsity appoints new Head of Departments

Ludhiana, April 1, 2013



Five professors of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University joined as new HODs in different departments. While delivering the information Dr. P.D, Juyal Registrar of university told that Dr. Neelam Bansal has taken over as HoD of Veterinary Anatomy and Histology Department. She started her career as Assistant Professor in the Deptt. of Veterinary Anatomy on 13.03.1992 and became Professor on 01.01.2009. She has taught 150 UG and PG courses and published six practical manuals for undergraduate and postgraduate students. She has guided five M.V.Sc and three Ph.D student as major advisor. Dr. Bansal has Published 135 research papers in the referred journals. She has attended various National and International conferences and received various awards and distinctions. She is actively involved in various activities of GADVASU such as Disciplinary committee for girls, Task force of the University to monitor women's safety and security issues in the campus, Sports, Cultural, Education tour etc.

Dr Jaswinder Singh Bhatti has taken over as Head, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education. Dr Bhatti joined the University service as Assistant Professor in December, 1988. He did his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Livestock Production and Management. He promoted as Associate Professor in 1998 and Professor in 2006. He has published 30 research papers, 125 extension papers in different species of livestock and an audio cassette on Poultry Farming. He has organized 22 national seminars/ workshops/conferences in Animal Husbandry field. He has written/contributed chapters in different books/manual/proceedings. He has also worked as a member of different technical committees constituted by the University/State level authorities. He has been a convener of the Pashu Palan Mela Committee since the inception of GADVASU in 2006 and has made it popular in the Punjab and the adjoining states.

Dr. Harmanjit Singh Banga, took charge of Head of Veterinary Pathology. He joined the university service in 1988 as Assistant Professor, Veterinary Pathology. He is a recipient of Commonwealth Scholarship for pursuing his PhD at University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada. Dr. Banga has an excellent academic record as he had been a meritorious student with many honours like the prestigious Dr. A S Atwal Gold Medal for M.V.Sc, Jawaharlal Nehru Trust Award etc. He has to his credit 104 research publication out of which 24 are of International repute. He has also contributed chapters in Veterinary Pathology books, prepared practical manuals, multimedia presentations for various courses of Veterinary Pathology. He has till date guided two PhD and 6 Masters students. Apart from this he is also Life member of various professional societies/bodies.

Dr (Col) P S Mavi has joined as HOD in the department of Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex (TVCC). TVCC has a specialized vet.Varsity hospital. He has a vast administrative experience of man and material management in civil, army and university. He served in Pb. animal husbandry deptt, Milkfed, RVC, Infantry and PAU. He has been to the Army War College Mhow for Junior and Senior Command course. He had been awarded DGBR (Director General Border Road) commendation card on republic day for his meritorious army service, Green Governance Award by Shri Gopal Krishna Gandhi, Governor WB, Outstanding Vety Alumni Award by the VC GADVASU. The main thrust of his new appointment will be to give quality education/training to the novice veterinarian in the hospital.

Dr Suresh Kumar Sharma has joined as Head of Department of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology. He has done his graduation, post graduation and doctoral degree from PAU. He has experience of teaching, research and extension for 20 years He has contributed in the field of Pharmacokinetics of antimicrobial and antiprotozoan drugs and Toxicology of Xenobiotics. He has published more than 60 research articles in international and national journals. Recently He has successfully completed a CSIR funded research project as Principal Investigator and is actively involved in various research projects in the department. He has been bestowed with five Best Paper awards and Young scientist award. He was the Executive member of Indian Society of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology.
