Govt. college for Women, was recently given its new name Government College for Girls. This change announced by- The Education Minister Hon'ble S. Sikander Singh Maluka was greatly Welcomed by the College Principal Mrs. Gurminder Kaur , the members of the staff and the students of the college.

To mark the celebrations an entertaining cultural Programme was organized by the students' Council. Bibi Satinder Kaur Bisla , President of the Women Akali Dal, Nawan Shehar an old student of the college year 1983 and Bibi Surinder Kaur Dyal graced the occasion with their benign presence- Principal Mrs. Gurminder Kaur accorded a warm welcome to the guests.

The celebration commenced with reciting of Shabad . The cultural extravaganza replete with various Dances, Songs, Medley, Monoacting, Orchestra,Skit & Giddha mesmerized the audience.

A power point presentation on the journey of the college from 1943 to 2012 was showcased on the occasion. The auditorium was packed to its capacity. The students displayed their talent with great vigour and enthusiasm by activity participating in the function. Choclates were distributed amongst the students cake cutting ceremony was done by the Principal and the council members.

Addressing the audience, the worthy guest congratulated the staff and the students and appreciated the efforts put in by them . She also encouraged the students to work hard for their bright future.

The vice-Principal Mrs. Sudarshan Mehta Proposed a vote of thanks.
