PAU VC HONOURED WITH PUNJAB RATAN

LUDHIANA, NOVEMBER 24:-----



The Vice-Chancellor of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon has been honoured with "Punjab Ratan" in recognition of his distinguished services to the society at large. Mr H.S. Brahma, Election Commissioner of India, conferred the 2012 state intellectual honour \"Punjab Ratan\" upon Dr Dhillon, during the conference on "Challenges of Democracy Today and Role of Intellectuals," organized at Government Medical College, Chandigarh, recently. All India Conference of Intellectuals organized the conference as a part of 31st Annual Celebration Year 2012.



Before joining as Vice-Chancellor of the PAU, Dr Dhillon, an eminent agricultural scientist, served in various capacities such as Director of National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (NBPGR), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR); Director of Research and Director Seeds at PAU. He has also worked on Maize Biotechnology at University of Honenheim, Stuttgart, Germany.



Dr Dhillon has earlier been decorated with several prestigious national awards such as Rafi Ahmad Kidwai Memorial Prize, Om Parkash Bhasin Award for Science and Technology, Dr Harbhajan Singh Memorial Award, and ICAR Joginder Singh Memorial Award by Indian Society of Genetics and Plant Breeding. Dr Dhillon, a fellow of National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, has also been awarded German Academic Exchange Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship.
