GANGANAGAR FARMERS GET TRAINING IN JUDICIOUS USE OF RESOURCES AT PAU

LUDHIANA, NOVEMBER 24:-----



A five-day training course on "Judicious Use of Resources in Agriculture," organized by the Director of Extension Education of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), concluded here. The course saw the participation of 36 farmers from Sri Ganganagar (Rajasthan).



Addressing the participants, Dr M.S. Gill, Director of Extension Education, urged the farmers to preserve the natural resources like soil, water and environment for the agricultural development. He advised the farmers to maintain soil health and make judicious use of water and agro-chemicals.



The Coordinator of the Course, Dr T. S. Riar, exhorted the trainees to opt agriculture as an enterprise.



During the course, the PAU experts explained about the techniques for judicious use of water in agriculture, soil and water management in rainfed agriculture, water and fertilizer management in rabi and kharif crops, tensiometer based irrigation scheduling in rice, micro-irrigation in arable and horticulture crops and judicious use of brackish water for irrigation. Besides, the farm experts shed light on role of soil and water testing in agriculture, rainwater harvesting in urban and rural areas, diagnosis of nutrient deficiency and their management, role of fertilizer in improving crop productivity in rainfed agriculture, crop residue management and its impact on soil health, and cultivation of aromatic and medicinal plants. Judicious use of herbicides in different crops, disease management in oil seeds, cereals and pulses; horticulture crops and their management in semi-arid and allied region, organic farming, conservation agriculture and farm machinery were other areas of focus.
