Drug peddler held, 700 gm narcotic powder seized

Ludhiana: Police claimed to have arrested a scrap dealer who was also involved in drug peddling. Manpreet Singh alias Sanju, 33, a resident of Dhoka Mohalla was arrested from Brown Road on Saturday for possessing 700 gm of narcotic powder. Police have slapped a case under section 22, 61, 81 of the NDPS Act. Police said, earlier Singh was involved in several cases of liquor smuggling. However, to get more and easy money he switched to narcotics smuggling.



Thieves steal 50 kg rice, cylinder from school



Ludhiana: A gang of thieves late on Friday stole 50 kg rice and a cylinder from government school of village Bhairo Munna in Ludhiana. The rice and cylinder were provided to students as part of the mid-day meal scheme. Kamaljit Kaur, principal of the school registered a complaint against unidentified people. ASI Sukhdev Raj at police station Sahnewal said that investigation has been initiated to arrest the accused.



Revenue group elects new head



Ludhiana: In an unanimous decision taken by the members of Punjab Revenue Officers\' Association which was held in Phillaur on Friday, Kanwar Narinder Singh, tehsildar of Payal, Ludhiana was elected the president of the body. The members of the body include district revenue officers, tehsildars and naib tehsildars from all districts of Punjab. Kanwar Narinder Singh said, \"Working for transparency in system and welfare of revenue employees is our only aim.\"



State women team selection from Oct 2



Ludhiana: Trials to select women teams for the Punjab State Women Games 2013-14 being held at Bathinda from October 2 - 5 shall be held on Sept 25, 2013 at Guru Nanak Stadium, Ludhiana said Kartar Singh Sehamby, district sports officer. The trials will be held in 12 games including athletics, basketball, badminton, hockey, kabaddi, kho-kho, handball, gymnastics, swimming, table tennis, lawn tennis and volley ball.
