Supreme Court to decide on CVC Thomas today

January 27, 2011

New Delhi: All eyes are on the Supreme Court as it is today holding the crucial hearing on the fate of controversial Central Vigilance Commissioner PJ Thomas.

An NGO, Centre for Public Interest Litigation, and others had challenged Thomas\' appointment as the CVC, quoting the Pamolein import corruption case in which Thomas is an accused and the trial is on at Vigilance Court in Thiruvananthapuram.

The Supreme Court had asked the government to answer several questions on the appointment of Thomas as the CVC while he was facing corruption charges.

However, the government in its affidavit strongly defended Thomas calling him as an outstanding officer and stuck to its stand on the issue leaving it for the Court to decide the fate of Thomas whose continuance in the top post was questioned by the judges earlier.

A three judge bench of the Supreme Court will hear the plea.
