Yash honour for nightingale

Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar was conferred with the first Yash Chopra Memorial Award for her outstanding contribution to the music industry and Indian cinema for more than five decades, at an extravagant event held in Mumbai.



The singer attended the function despite being unwell over the last three days. She was conferred with a trophy and a cheque worth Rs.10 lakh by Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari.



\"I shared a special bond with Yashji and will always miss singing for his films. This was the reason that despite being unwell I came for the award function,\" said Lata, who looked pristine in a white saree with floral prints.

Lata Mangeshkar is an icon and I am glad that she could manage to come to receive the award despite her ill health,\" the late film-maker\'s wife Pamela Chopra said.



Dedicated to the memory of the late producer- director, the Yash Chopra Memorial Award has been instituted by TSR Foundation of T. Subbarami Reddy. Some prominent stars who have worked in Yash Raj Films productions were present.



Among the guests were Rani Mukerji, Anushka Sharma, Sridevi, Anil Kapoor, Jeetendra. Film- maker Subhash Ghai, gazal singer Talat Aziz, Hema Malini and Simi Garewal were seen at the event too.
