Drunk youth ram car, loot city businessman

LUDHIANA: A city businessman fell prey to road rage on Saturday as three drunken youths first rammed their vehicle into his BMW, assaulted him and later fled with his cash and gold chain.



Devans Kaurpal of Modi enclave on Badhewal road was all too shocked when three youths, identified as Ravneet Singh, Avneet Singh and Sunny, riding a Volksvagon Vento car with a red beacon, hit his BMW X 1 near Astha hospital at 5 pm. When Devans, who was travelling with his wife, came out of the car to see the damage, he was abused by the trio, who were heavily drunk. All the three youths were students and one of them was a son of a bank manger from Kitchlu Nagar.



As the altercation turned ugly, the youths thrashed the businessman and even tried to manhandle his wife. But when passersby started gathering at the spot, Avneet and Sunny snatched a gold chain and Rs 9,000 cash from Devans and fled.



But Ravneet was caught and handed over to the police. In his complaint to the Division Number 8 police station, Devans Kaurpal of Modi enclave Badhewal road said Ravneet Singh was driving Volksvagon Vento car rashly. Devansh Kaur Pal said, \"All the three boys were drunk and they started hitting me and even tried to manhandle my wife. Later when the people gathered around us, the two of the accused ran away from the spot. Drugs like charas were also recovered by police from their car\". \"I was hit on the face, stomach and back. After the incident, I somehow managed to register a complaint with the police and reached home. Even my wife was left shocked after the incident,\" he added.



Meanwhile, Division Number 8 police station has registered a case under Sections 323, 341, 506, 427, 171, 382 and 34 of the IPC and has started the investigations.



Pawan Kumar, in charge of Ghumar Mandi police post, said they have arrested one of the accused Ravneet Singh, who is doing BBA at GGN Khalsa College for Boys in Ghumar Mandi. His accomplices are still at large. He said during the course of preliminary questioning, Ravneet revealed the names of his friends Avneet Singh and Sunny of Krishna Nagar.
