BJP to lodge complaint against Rahul Gandhi\'s \'peace\' speech with EC in Rajasthan

Thursday, Oct 24, 2013,

Strongly objecting to Rahul Gandhi's speech – in which he said that BJP followed politics of hate – the Opposition party in state termed the speech as unlawful and in violation of the model code of conduct.

The party has decided to lodge a complaint against Congress with the Election Commission (EC) demanding cancellation of its recognition and stern action against Gandhi's speech.

BJP's state spokesperson Kailashnath Bhatt said that as per the model code of conduct, criticism of policies and programmes of rival political parties is allowed, but no criticism is allowed on basis of allegations that do not relate to leaders of any party.

With reference to parts of Rahul's speech — where he indicated BJP had stoked riots in UP, Gujarat and Kashmir while Congress was dousing communal fire – BJP questioned if any commission has held BJP responsible for the riots in these states and does the Union government, or the UP government, have any facts that people of Muzaffarnagar want to go to Pakistan after Gandhi said that a policeman had told him so.

BJP's state vice-president Onkar Singh Lakhawat questioned the part of Rahul's speech in Churu, in which he said that he would also be killed one day. "If Rahul Gandhi was not safe in the country, who else was safe?" Lakhawat said.

Party has decided to submit a CD of the speech to the EC on Thursday.
