To develop self-employment vet varsity offers transfer of technology

Department of Livestock Products Technology of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University developed a number of new technologies for meat processing, packaging and by-products utilization. Dr. Manish Chatli HOD said that the department has state of art meat processing, packaging and quality evaluation facilities. The department has developed several low-cost technologies for the farmers, budding entrepreneurs and meat industry personnel's, unemployed youth who want to start or develop their business. These developed technologies are available for transfer to their end users. The department provides complete know-how about the technology, its marketing aspects and quality assurance. The technologies ready for transfer include emu meat products such as pickle, burger patties, nuggets, balls/ koftas, sausage etc., functional/ health-oriented meat products such as low-fat, low-calorie, low-cholesterol, omega-3 enriched products etc., ready-to-eat meat snacks such as meat cutlets, meat croquette and meat samosa etc., extended storage life chicken meat snacks such as chicken kurkure, meat waddi and egg jam etc.

Emu population has increased a lot in Punjab in the recent years. So the development of value added nutritious emu meat products can be a profitable market option. The department has developed omega 3 fatty acid enriched chicken meat patties, low-cholesterol meat sausages and patties, fibre enriched meat nuggets etc. to cater the demand of health conscious consumers. The technology for the production of mouth-watering meat based ready-to-eat snacks has also been developed. As compared to the conventional snacks, meat based snacks developed by the department are healthier with higher protein and low salt and fat. The developed meat waddi and chicken kurkure can be stored at room temperature for 3-4 months. Egg jam is a novel versatile nutritious product developed by the department for the benefit of egg industry. It offers a nutritive alternative to existing fruit jams in market with superior nutritive and keeping quality.

The department has developed several other technologies for the benefits of budding entrepreneurs and unemployed youth who want to start their own unit.
