Telangana fallout: crucial meeting of disgruntled ministers today

New Delhi/Hyderabad:August 03, 2013(7STARNEWS)Upset Congress ministers and legislators are likely to hold a crucial meeting in Hyderabad and New Delhi to decide the future course of action on Telangana-whether to go-ahead with resignations or follow the Central leadership line on the issue.



Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and APCC president B Satyanarayana would speak to the ministers on Saturday, MLAs and MLCs from the two regions to address their concerns in the backdrop of the Congress and UPA coalition\'s July 30 decision to bifurcate the State.



The APCC president told reporters that there is need to observe restraint by all concerned to ensure an amicable solution to issues raised by them.



On Friday, seven Congress MPs had resigned in protest against the decision to create Telangana. However, the Central leadership had been able to save the party from a major damage by managing to persuade upset union ministers with an assurance to address their concerns through a high-level committee.



Human resource development minister Pallam Raju and ministers of state Purandeswari, JD Seelam and Killi Kruparani are likely to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi on the issue, as had been advised by senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh.



The Congress has 33 MPs from Andhra Pradesh, 19 of them are from the coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions.



The Central government\'s decision to carve the 29th state out of Andhra Pradesh has triggered protests in the state and revived demand for separate states across the country.



In Bengal, Darjeeling seemed to be headed for a long agitation for Gorkhaland as people stocked up on groceries to tide over an indefinite bandh from Saturday.



A police outpost and a forest bunglow were set on fire on Friday. \"Rioters tried to trap two home guards inside the burning police outpost. One of them has serious burn injuries,\" said additional superintendent of police Supdeep Sarkar.



Violence continued in Assam\'s Karbi Anglong hills district as statehood supporters attacked a police station, set ablaze 20 government offices and a local Congress MP\'s house, prompting the army to stage a flag march. The district has seen two deaths over three days of violence.



In lower Assam, Bodo tribals -also fighting for their own state - blocked railway tracks for 12 hours, affecting train services.



In Andhra Pradesh, the number of MLAs who resigned from their post had gone up to 20 on Friday. Reports said about 15 other legislators had claimed to have submitted their resignations to PCC president B Satyanarayana on the same day. However, it is yet to be confirmed.



Meanwhile, four MLCs of the TDP and six of the Congress had in their papers.



Two MLAs of the Telugu Desam Party also faxed their resignations to the Assembly Speaker.
