Samsung’s 4 Sept event: Galaxy Gear watch to launch as well?

Aug 6, 2013(7STARNEWS)Samsung is all set to host a special event in Berlin on 4 September ahead of the IFA consumer electronics show. The South-Korean tech giant is expected to launch the Galaxy Note III phablet at this event but for tech enthusiasts all over, its the news of another Samsung device that has sparked buzz.

According to the latest rumours, Samsung could launch its smartwatch the Galaxy Gear at this event too. Dutch website GalaxyClub has reported that Samsung has filed a new patent with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in July for a new smartwatch.

The report states, This is a more recent application than the previously surfaced name without the Galaxy designation. The new registration indicates therefore that the device (you) just neat place will occupy within the familiar, running on the Android operating system Galaxy product line.

The device is named the Galaxy Gear product code SM-V700 and according to the Dutch report Samsung could release the device on 4 September along with the Galaxy Note III.

According to the patent document, the description for the device states, Wearable digital electronic devices in the form of a wristwatch, wrist band or bangle capable of providing access to the Internet and for sending and receiving phone calls, electronic mails and messages. You can view the patent here.

However there's a good chance that Samsung is just working on the device and the launch could take place later. As far as smartwatches go, all the top tech companies from Apple to Google to Microsoft seem to be working on these.

In fact research firm Canalys has predicted that over 5 million smartwatches will be shipped in 20134. The report by the firm states thatover 330,000 smart watches were shipped in 2012, led by Sony and Motorola. In 2013, the entry of Pebble along with Sony should see over 500,000 units shipped, adds the report.

Smart watches and wearable computing devices are the future. So there is no reason why Samsung would want to be left behind in this market.

As far as the Galaxy Note III rumour mills are concerned the decide will reportedly come with an Octa-core Exynos 5420 (eight-core processor)/Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB RAM, 1080p display for a 5.7 or 6-inch screen, a 13-megapixel camera possibly with optical image stabilization, LTE-A (LTE-Advanced), and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. The smartphone could also come with better controls for the Stylus pen. More on that here.
