A monthly training camp of the Seed Producers' and Nursery Growers' Association (SPNGA) was held today at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). Meanwhile, a three-day training course on "Storage and Processing of Horticultural Produce" will be organized from August 12-14 at PAU.

During the camp, the Additional Director of Extension Education, Dr H.S. Dhaliwal interacted with the seed producers.

Dr T.S. Riar, Coordinator, SPNGA, told that the University experts educated the participants about the raising of vegetable nursery, and strengthening of seed production at PAU. Besides, the experts shared their experiences about seed production, gained during their visit to Dharwad Agricultural University, Karnataka, he added.

The resource persons from PAU included Dr T.S. Dhillon (Vegetable Science expert, Dr T.P. Singh, Plant Breeder, and Mr PPS Pangli, President, SPNGA.

Giving details about the course "Storage and Processing of Horticultural Produce," Dr H.S. Dhaliwal said that the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Officers, and the scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendras will participate in the training programme. The course will be jointly coordinated by the Directorate of Extension Education and Training Unit of College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology,PAU.

Dr Dhaliwal told that the PAU experts will dwell upon the agro-processing complexes, mushroom processing, amla and honey processing, processing of potatoes for chips making, and cleaning, grading and post-harvest management of fruits and vegetables. Besides, the trainees will be apprised of processing and storage of fruits and vegetables at small scale level, mentha processing, and processing of turmeric, chillies, onion and milk with thrust on their related machinery. The registration for the course will be held on August 12 at Farmers' Service Centre of PAU at 9.00. a.m., he informed.
