Jagan to go on fast in jail from Sunday

YSRC president and Kadapa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will go on an indefinite hunger strike from Sunday in the Chanchalguda prison where he is under judicial custody in connection with his illegal assets case.



He will fast in support of the agitation in Seemandhra region. He will be taking over from his mother Vijaya Lakshmi who called off her hunger strike in Guntur at his request on Saturday afternoon. In the early hours Saturday, police shifted Vijayamma to hospital forcibly as her health condition deteriorated. She was on fast since Monday.



Vijaya Lakshmi, before she took a flight to Hyderabad from Vijayawada, demanded that if the Centre cannot do justice to Seemandhra, let them not divide the state. "The Congress has driven a wedge between the people of the two regions," she said.



Jagan Mohan Reddy's wife Bharathi announced her husband's decision after she and YSRC leaders conferred with him in the jail.



Jagan's decision drew derisive comments from the Congress. "If Vijaya Lakshmi performed a street play in Guntur, her son would begin another in jail. Anyway, no one knows what he will be doing since he is inside jail," PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana said.



Meanwhile, police in Guntur disrupted hunger strike camps of TDP legislators Nannapaneni Rajakumari, Yerapathaneni Srinvasa Rao and former minister Sanakkayala Aruna. As they were fasting since Monday, their health deteriorated.
