TRAINING COURSE ON SAFE STORAGE OF FOOD GRAINS BEGINS AT PAU

LUDHIANA, JULY 1:



A six-day training course on "Safe Storage of Food Grains and Quality Standards" organized for the officers of categories II and III of Food Corporation of India, began today at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). The PAU Directorate of Extension Education is coordinating the course.



Divulging details, Dr M.S. Gill, Director of Extension Education, said that the PAU experts will educate the trainees about the factors affecting quality of food grains; quality control equipments and procedures; operation and management of grain moisture meters; and grading, classification and quality assurance of cereal and coarse grains. Besides, the focus will be on handling of equipments used in modern grain storage and milling system; effect of various factors on storage of food grains, quality assurance to the consumers; and cleaning, grading, drying, aeration and air tight storage, he added. The experts will also dwell upon the rice milling and quality control in modern rice mills; prevention of mycoflora and mycotoxins in food grains; identification and management of insect-pests of stored grains; rodent pest management; and quality determination during storage of food grains, he said. In addition, the thrust will be on safe use of pesticides in stored grains; symptoms of poisoning and antidotes; problems and management of pesticide residues in stored grains; bird management in grain storage facilities; procurement policy of food grains; and role of commission agents in food procurement, he told. Exposure visits to Adani Group at V.P.O Dagru, district Moga and field visit to modern grain storage and milling facilities will also be organized, he informed.
