Mumbai:19 Jul 2013

Yesteryear actress Reena Roy who has been missing from big screen for years might make a comeback on the big screen. Apparently, filmmaker Agnidev Chatterjee is keen to have her back in Bollywood. The Bengali filmmaker is making his directorial debut in Bollywood and has approached Reena for a leading role.

"The character has been written with her in mind. The film is about a real-life incident when a convict sentenced for life sought a Governor's pardon. Article 161 of the Constitution of India confers on the Governor of a state the right to grant pardon. Her role is that of the protagonist's mother," Agnidev said.

The actress, who was last seen on the big screen in J P Dutta's Refugee, has been leading a quiet life and occasionally spotted at events.

"The production company has got in touch with her. They have been told that she is presently travelling. They are waiting for her to get back. But they are keen that Reena Roy agrees to be part of the project. They don't want to settle for anyone else," a source said.

The filmmaker is presently on a recce in Shimla for the shoot locations. The film apparently also stars Atul Kulkarni, Rituparna Sengupta and Karon Mullick. Chatterjee's Bengali films include A Political Murder, Mrs Sen and 3 Kanya all of which starred Rituparna.

Reena who was seen on the big screen in the '70s and '80s quit Bollywood, after her marriage to Pakistani cricketer Mohsin Khan. She later remarried but that was shortlived. The actress is best remembered for her roles in films like Zakhmee, Nagin, Aasha and Naseeb.
