Coalgate: CBI files fresh cases against Naveen Jindal, ex- Minister Dasari Narayan Rao

11 Jun, 2013, NEW DELHI:--

The CBI on Tuesday registered fresh cases in coal scam and named as accused former Minister of State for Coal Dasari Narayan Rao and MP Naveen Jindal. CBI sources told PTI that an FIR was lodged against Jindal Steel and Power Ltd, Gagan Sponge and two others.

CBI\'s R.K. Gaur said a case has been filed but declined to give more details.

CBI is carrying out searches at 15 places in Delhi and Hyderabad in connection with coal scam, the source said.

Reacting to the development, BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said, \"Govt should give immediate permission to CBI to probe the then secretary in coal ministry Mr Gupta.\"

Javadekar alleged that the government is trying to hinder the Coalgate probe to save the PM.

The BJP had last week demanded Prime Minister Manmohan Singh\'s resignation over the Coalgate scam in which the CBI\'s status report was vetted before being submitted to the Supreme Court.

\"When the Prime Minister himself is under suspicion...why was the CBI report in the Coalgate probe changed in former law Minister Ashwani Kumar\'s room?\" BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.

\"After seeing the changes, the Supreme Court observed that the soul of the report has been changed. If after this observation, the Prime Minister still remains in his office, then it would be keeping aside morality. We demand that he (Singh) should immediately resign,\" he said.

In its rebuttal, Congress rejected BJP\'s demand. \"There is no question of resignation. What will happen for them with the resignation of the PM? What will they (BJP) gain from the resignation? After all, they are not going to come to power and have their Prime Minister in the next Lok Sabha elections. \"Except negativism, is there anything left in BJP? It is regrettable that BJP never speaks on policies,\" Congress spokesperson Renuka Chowdhury said.
