Underworld threatened young cricketers to fix matches: Reports

With each passing day, the IPL spot-fixing saga keeps getting murkier. Now, reports have emerged that suggest that D Company might have threatened young cricketers to get involved into fixing.



According to a leading Indian daily, the gangsters controlling the bookies asked them to intimidate anyone who would not accept money for fixing.



The daily quoted a Delhi police source as saying that the names of Dawood Ibrahim and Tiger Memon were enough to induce fear and force the youngsters to get involved into the racket.



\"Sometimes, when a player refused to take money, he was threatened. Anybody would be scared hearing the names of Dawood Ibrahim and Tiger Memon. But we need to verify all these things,\" a Delhi Police source was quoted as saying by the daily.



The reported further said that the gangsters were angry with Rajasthan Royals' Ajit Chandila who failed to signal them that he was going to bowl the fixed over on May 5. The transcript of a telephonic conversation revealed that a bookie was asked to instruct Chandila to get his act together or he will have to face consequences.



The bookies stayed close to the cricketers and kept in regular touch with the underworld so as to inform them about the situations and whether the "work was being done properly or not.\"
