Narendra Modi addresses Indian diaspora in US, slams govt

May 13, 2013,NEW DELHI:--

Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi on Monday addressed the Indian diaspora in 18 US cities through video conferencing.

\"Gujaratis are a global community. In true sense you are our cultural ambassadors. This give strength to us, \" Modi said while addressing the Indian diaspora.

\"I bow to everyone who worked and gave their lives for Gujarat. I assure we will never forget your dreams,\" Modi said. Whatever strength God has given us, we will try to fulfill the dreams, Modi added.

\"Development is the only road which will lead our nation. Gujarat has shown a ray of hope to the country through its development,\" Modi said. We need development in Kutch, Banaskantha, Radhanpur, on our coastline, Modi said.

I know there are many American leaders sitting there but I chose to spoke in Hindi. I hope you will convey my message to them, Narendra Modi said to the Indian diaspora.

The event was organized by the Gujarati community in the US as a part of the Gujarat Day celebrations.

After the controversial cancellation of his address at Wharton India Economic Forum in March, Modi had addressed an NRI event in the US organized by \'Friends of BJP\' through video link.

Slamming the UPA govt, Modi said the biggest problem confronting India is lack of trust. We need to re-establish the trust. Even coal has not been spared, what else is left?.

Modi said, \"If you compare the last 12 years with the earlier 40 years, you will realise that we have taken development (in Gujarat) to a new high.\"

\"This is Gujarat Day. But I am an Indian first, and I am worried because we are heading towards troubled times. All because of a weak government,\" Modi said.
