Buffalo Breeders from South America visit Vet Varsity

A delegation of 20 Buffalo Breeders from Venezuela, Columbia, Costa Rica and Brazil visited the Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University. These breeders raise about 1000-2000 buffaloes in their farms for milk, meat and drought purpose. They visited the University Dairy Farm and showed keen interest in high milk producing buffaloes.

These buffalo breeders showed keen desire to procure the semen of superior buffalo bulls maintained at the University farm. Dr. S.N.S. Randhawa, Director Research, GADVASU apprised them that university could supply semen only when they send their request through their governments to Union Ministry of Agriculture, Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying. They first time observed the working of biogas operated genset in the University. Avaro Restrepo, a buffalo breeder from Columbia asked for guidelines for setting up a biogas and biogas operated genset at his farm, back home.

The team also visited the buffalo farm of Paramjit Singh Dhillon at Lalton village and was impressed by the high yielding buffaloes, proper record keeping and silage making at the farm. Apart from Dr. S.N.S. Randhawa, Dr. R.S. Sahota, Director extension education and scientist of different streams also accompanied the delegation to satisfy their queries.
