Aashiqui 2 holds its own against Iron Man 3

Mumbai, May 01, 2013-

If there were assumptions that Mukesh Bhatt's Aashiqui 2 would die unnoticed at the box-office due to the popular Hollywood franchise Iron Man 3, then trade analysts and exhibitors give a suprisingly different news on the business of the film

Trade analyst Amod Mehra agrees,"Overall, it was a very decent weekend. Aashiqui 2 has made very good business, considering it was a non-star cast film. The thing that has worked for the film is its music. On the other hand, Iron Man 3 has done phenomenally well for an English film and has done business of Rs. 20 to Rs. 21 crore in India." Mehra, adds, "Had Iron Man 3 not released at the same time, Aashiqui 2 would have done even better."

Both films got equal space at the multiplexes. "Both got a big opening on Friday. Iron Man 3 opened with 70 to 75 per cent occupancy, whereas Aashiqui 2 got a decent opening of 45 to 48 per cent. Aashiqui 2 maintained around 50 per cent occupancy on Saturday and Sunday as well. It made pretty good business and the film's a hit," says Girish Wankhede, general manager-marketing and public relation, Cinemax India Ltd.

Exhibitor and distributor Akshaye Rathi, says, "The heart-wrenching love story of Aashiqui 2 has appealed to young couples as well as families, which helped it score fabulously over the weekend and remain rock solid throughout the week."
