PAU VC RELEASES A BOOK ON AGRI-SUSTAINABILITY

LUDHIANA, APRIL 10:



The Vice-Chancellor of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, and the Chancellor of the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, Dr S.S. Johl released a book entitled "Agricultural Sustainability: Progress and Prospectus in Crop Research." The book, dedicated to the PAU- A Pioneer in Green Revolution, has been edited by the alumni of this University namely Dr Gurbir S. Bhullar and Dr (Mrs) Navreet K. Bhullar, Scientists, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich, Switzerland. The book has been jointly published by Elsevier Inc. (USA) and Academic Press (UK).



In his remarks, Dr Dhillon expressed great happiness over the dedication of the book to the PAU and described it as a "Diverse Book with Diverse Contents." He lauded the authors for promoting the exclusive features of the international experts and the PAU alumni, who have contributed significantly to this book.



Congratulating the authors, Dr Johl stated, "You have given something to Punjab by residing outside India." He said that the book, inspired by the Golden jubilee Year of the PAU, is indeed acknowledgeable as it was a landmark year of the University.







Earlier, welcoming the dignitaries, authors and the faculty of the PAU, Dr H.S. Sehgal, Additional Director of Communication, said that the book contains 15 chapters, which have been contributed by the internationally recognized scientists and further been grouped into four distinct sections, each representing a thematic area.







The editors namely Dr Gurbir S. Bhullar and Dr (Mrs) Navpreet K. Bhullar said, "We wanted to contribute and dedicate our efforts to the PAU." The book offers an insight into agro-biodiversity, biotechnology, marginal crops, industrial approaches, resource conservation, nutritional enhancement of crops and crop products. In addition, the book reflects the economic priorities for attaining farm sustainability, they told. The book consists of a foreword, written by Dr M.S. Swaminathan, Father of Green Revolution in India; an interview of Dr Gurdev S. Khush, a world renowned rice-breeder; and chapters contributed by the PAU alumni, Dr S.S. Johl, Dr D.S. Brar, and Dr Virmani. The scientists from different countries such as Italy, Australia, Switzerland and many more have also contributed to this book, they added.
