Liquor Vend in Chander Nagar

15 April 2013(Dr Arun Mitra)

The Communist Party of India has demanded that the Liquor vend near the Chander Nagar Chotti Puli should not be opened. Party has fully supported peoples agitation in this regard. Several party workers led by Com Gurnam Singh Sidhu and Com Bharpur Singh joined hand with the people of the area at Mini Secretariat today and presented a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner. Party expressed serious concern at the rising use of the serious type of intoxicants including smack and heroine in the city. This is spoiling our youth and adding to crime. It is unfortunate that the drug peddlers enjoy political patronage. That is why the menace is not being checked.

In the mean time the Punjab Istri Sabha and All India Working Forum (WWF)– AITUC has also supported the cause of the people of the area. The leaders of two organizations Dr.Narjit Kaur – Convener WWF, Mrs.Gurcharan Kochar – President and Ms. Jit Kumari – Secretary Punjab Istri Sabha along with Mrs.Kusum Lata and Mrs.Kulwant Kaur visited the women sitting on dharna at the Chander Nagar Puli yesterday. They emphasized that this place is heavily crowded and has fast running traffic on the road on bank of Buddha Nala. Moreover there is a Subzi Mandi in that vicinity where mostly women come for shopping.
