Court Refuses To Extend Bail For Musharraf

Pakistani court has rejected bail for former military ruler Pervez Musharraf in connection with the December 2007 murder of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

Government prosecutor Zulfikar Chaudry confirmed on April 24 that the Islamabad High Court "dismissed General Musharraf's bail application" and said Musharraf should now be arrested.

It is the second of three cases for which Musharraf has now been denied bail. He is currently under house arrest for his decision to sack judges when he imposed emergency rule in 2007.

Neither Musharraf nor his lawyer attended the hearing on April 24.

Musharraf denies any involvement in the death of Bhutto, who was killed shortly after she returned to Pakistan to participate in elections.

Musharraf returned to Pakistan last month after four years of self-imposed exile. He intended to run in the May 11 parliamentary elections.
