Mumbai:11/04/2013(Ruchita M.Baania)

There has been a drastic increase in series of cybercrimes in which Mumbai city's debit/credit card users have had their details stolen & their money spent abroad. This has not only caused a dent in their bank accounts, but also on their confidence.

Although debit/credit card users were in the city having their cards in the wallets, there are nearly 150 cases received by cybercrime wing in these four months of the year about their cards have being used abroad.

The police, who have failed in solving these crimes, suspect the involvement of a cloning racket. The police after investigating such crimes, which proved largely futile, have gone through the modus operandi of the criminals. And have recommended a series of measures to banks in order to prevent such crimes. Joint commissioner of police, Himanshu Roy confirmed that the recommendation has been made.

These are the various recommendations which are put-forth by the cybercrime wing which may drastically change the way we use our plastic money.

GUIDELINES TO BE FOLLOWED BY THE CARD USERS:

• Credit card customers should not give their cards to any one for any kind of verification.

• While giving a card to shopkeepers, waiters, receptionists, petrol pump attendants, make sure it swiped only once, & in front of you.

• If you are making online purchases, ensure that the website is legitimate. Don't make online purchases in cyber cafes or public places.
